Rapid Access Sleep Medicine Consultation is available for urgent situations. For example:
- Patients in safety critical jobs – truck/taxi/bus drivers, other professional drivers, police officers, fire fighters, airline pilots, air traffic controllers, aircraft mechanics, railway engineers, ship captains, marine pilots, and others
- Patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, cerebrovascular disease, obstructive/restrictive lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, pregnancy or on opioid treatment.
- Drivers who report falling asleep driving within the last 2 years.
All patients who are considered to be a safety risk should be advised to cease their occupation and personal driving until effectively treated and until they are no longer a safety risk.
